A New Life Chapter, Cookie Recipe & New Books to Read

A New Chapter...

Ten days ago, my firstborn, the child who made me a mother, packed up and moved a thousand miles away to begin an exciting new chapter in his life.

He graduated last year with a degree in biomedical engineering and completed his master's degree this past May. He got a job offer back in February. I've been preparing myself for the day he would leave. As parents we know this day would come. We raise our children to become independent, confident adults, even though our hearts secretly wish we could keep them close forever.

I'm incredibly proud of the young man he has become. He's kind beyond measure, thoughtful and responsible. I have complete confidence that he'll do well.

That doesn't make it any easier.

The first few days were especially hard. I cried more than I'd like to admit and found myself looking at the clock, wondering what he was doing in his new home.

I'm getting used to the idea of not having him at home There have been no tears these past few days. We've talked, exchanged messages, and enjoyed a few FaceTime calls. Seeing his smile and hearing about his new job and apartment has made the distance feel just a little smaller.

I'm still adjusting. Still miss him terribly. I imagine I always will. But little by little, my heart is learning to accept the distance as my son builds a life of his own.

And I told my youngest he's not allowed to leave ever, LOL.

Before he left, I made him a binder with recipes for all his favorite foods and desserts, with added space for many more. Here's a link to download his favorite oatmeal chocolate chip cookies recipe.

Blurb

When I left Poplar Ridge nine years ago, I never expected to return to my small hometown as a single dad or to fall for a woman who’s completely off limits.

Enter Jasmine Hayes. The fiery barrel racer with a smart mouth and hypnotic eyes is my new coworker, my greatest temptation, and… my best friend’s daughter.

At twenty-one, she’s far too young for me, but she’s made it clear she doesn’t care about our sixteen year age gap. I doubt her father would feel the same, and since he’s also my boss, getting involved with her is out of the question.

Still, she’s determined to break down my walls and steal my heart. I try to keep my distance, but when her dad tasks me with accompanying her to her barrel races, we’re forced to live in close quarters, and my restraint slowly begins to unravel. I try to fight my feelings for her, knowing that if I cross that line, I risk losing my job and my best friend, but some things are inevitable.

And some people are worth risking everything for.

Inked in Brotherhood by Debra Anastasia is book one in this series.

Three Boys. One Vow.

Blake, Beckett and Cole aren’t related. The only blood they share is what’s traded between them on their foster father’s fists. Every night, they make the choice to take the hits so the little kids in the home don’t have to.

The boys are just months from graduating and being sent into the cold, hard world. Beckett is intent on becoming the scariest man in town. Because protecting his brothers means doing the unforgivable. He certainly has no time to fall for the new girl. Rich, untouchable Candy proves to be everything he’ll never deserve.

Loving Candy could destroy his delicate found family forever.

My friends call me Sister Callie. I'm the good girl. The responsible one who never took a risk and always did what was expected of me.

But that was before Jayden Reed stood before me, shirtless, jeans unbuttoned, and a sinful smile that promised to do wicked, wicked things to me.

I want him. I want to be reckless. I want one wild night. Consequences be damned, it’s time to be a bad, bad girl. Except I never imagined the consequences would come with a side of murder.

In This Month’s Adventure… Apparently, I’ve become the person neighborhood wildlife comes to when things go sideways. Earlier this month, in another edition of “Stuff I Didn’t Sign Up For but Will Always Step In When Needed,” I found myself rescuing a baby bunny from Morgan, one of the feral cats I feed. I went outside that morning to feed the cats, and there was Morgan, proudly carrying a baby bunny like she’d brought me a present. I chased Morgan around until she dropped her prize. I...

Blue Jay fledgling in birdbath

Happy June, my friends! Not much is happening around here this week, but I do have two stories to share. First, my son surprised me with the coolest gift. He ordered an apron from William Sonoma, hand-drew Baby Yoda in Illustrator, and then embroidered the design himself. Let me repeat that: he drew it and then embroidered it. I can barely sew on a button, so I'm beyond impressed. How adorable is this? I absolutely love it, and it may be my new favorite kitchen accessory. My second story...

Flowers

Hello friends! Spring has finally arrived. The cherry trees are in bloom, flowers are popping up everywhere, and dandelions have officially taken over the yard. Best of all—I’m no longer freezing. 😊 Lately, I’ve been working on a couple of projects, including something completely new for me: fantasy. I’ve always loved reading fantasy and paranormal—they’re my favorites—and this particular story has been living in my head for years. I finally started writing it. I’ll admit, writing fantasy...
