Hot days, good books & a little adventure

My first trip to D.C. (and my feet have opinions)

This past weekend, I went to Washington, D.C. for the very first time! I loved exploring the museums and seeing the monuments in person, but guys, no one warned me that sightseeing in D.C. is also an endurance sport.

We walked over seven miles a day. In August. In the heat. I’m pretty sure by the end of the trip, my feet were considering filing for divorce.

But despite the heat and all those miles, I had a wonderful time and loved finally getting to experience D.C. and visiting with my son who was there for a My Chemical Romance show.

I'm very happy to be back home, where my sightseeing consists mostly of walking from my desk to the kitchen.

Have you ever been to D.C.? What was your favorite place to visit?

Instigator is a neurospicy, secret identity, online friends to lovers hockey romance with mutual pining, emotional healing, and an unhealthy love of baseball. As always in an Allie Lasky book, he falls first, but she comes first—every time.

For seven years, my best friend has been a faceless voice on the internet.

Annie knows me better than anyone. We've spent thousands of hours gaming together, but we've never exchanged names, photos, or personal details. That's the deal.

Then I discover Annie is actually Cecilia Ramos, the billionaire tech genius working with my team on groundbreaking helmet research.

The woman who challenges me at every turn.

The woman I can't stop thinking about.

Being friends with Ceci online was easy. Being friends with her in person is a lot harder when all I can think about is kissing her.

Especially because friendship is all I have to offer. After the last woman I trusted shattered my life, I've spent years keeping everyone at arm's length. Ceci deserves more than someone who's still trying to put himself back together.

Too bad she makes me forget every reason I should stay away.

And the closer we get, the harder it becomes to convince myself that being her friend is enough.

Tropes:

🏒 hockey romance

🏒 reverse age gap

🏒 online friends to lovers

🏒 autistic MMC

🏒 billionaire FMC with ADHD

🏒 found family

🏒 workplace romance

🏒 toys are friends not competition

🏒 he looks grumpy but worships her

🏒 he falls first, she comes first

My friends call me Sister Callie. I'm the good girl. The responsible one who never took a risk and always did what was expected of me.

But that was before Jayden Reed stood before me, shirtless, jeans unbuttoned, and a sinful smile that promised to do wicked, wicked things to me.

I want him. I want to be reckless. I want one wild night. Consequences be damned, it’s time to be a bad, bad girl. Except I never imagined the consequences would come with a side of murder.

"The love of books is a love which requires neither justification, apology, nor defense." —.A. Langford

Here’s to new places, little adventures, good books, and coming home with happy memories.

Thank you for spending a little part of your day with me. Until next month, I hope life brings you something worth smiling about.

Happy reading! Much love,

Erica

In This Month’s Adventure… Apparently, I’ve become the person neighborhood wildlife comes to when things go sideways. Earlier this month, in another edition of “Stuff I Didn’t Sign Up For but Will Always Step In When Needed,” I found myself rescuing a baby bunny from Morgan, one of the feral cats I feed. I went outside that morning to feed the cats, and there was Morgan, proudly carrying a baby bunny like she’d brought me a present. I chased Morgan around until she dropped her prize. I...

A New Chapter... Ten days ago, my firstborn, the child who made me a mother, packed up and moved a thousand miles away to begin an exciting new chapter in his life. He graduated last year with a degree in biomedical engineering and completed his master's degree this past May. He got a job offer back in February. I've been preparing myself for the day he would leave. As parents we know this day would come. We raise our children to become independent, confident adults, even though our hearts...

Happy June, my friends! Not much is happening around here this week, but I do have two stories to share. First, my son surprised me with the coolest gift. He ordered an apron from William Sonoma, hand-drew Baby Yoda in Illustrator, and then embroidered the design himself. Let me repeat that: he drew it and then embroidered it. I can barely sew on a button, so I'm beyond impressed. How adorable is this? I absolutely love it, and it may be my new favorite kitchen accessory. My second story...
